Because iPad
and iPhone
share a common
software base,
the means to
control your
AMX system
from an iPhone
work automatically
on the iPad.
As with the
iPod and the
iPhone, it
soon became
clear that
we would need
to support
the iPad for
applications
ranging from
system control
to media servers.
Within weeks
of its availability,
the first Saville
integrated
systems were
being tested
and delivered
with iPad in
control.
The ‘designer’ appeal of the device as a boardroom control panel is understandable, particularly when allied to its universal internet and e-mail capabilities. The other major factor in its favour is its cost - some £2000 less than the cost of a professional touch panel controller like those from AMX or Crestron. But naturally, there are drawbacks…
Access to the functions of an installed AV system is not instant, as it is with a proprietary touch panel. The route via an appropriate App first has to be navigated. The other major disadvantage is its desirability – making it a highly prone to theft, until genuine security docking stations become available in the UK.
Saville offers two options for incorporating iPad as a control device with a typical AMX-based control system:
TPControl enables an Apple® iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad™ to transform into a fully functional touch panel for controlling AMX system platforms. This easy-to-use application provides real-time, touch control of AV systems, lighting, shades, room temperatures and more, from iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads. As with the iPhone and other smart devices, the iPad works on the control system’s Wi-Fi network.

Use any Apple mobile device for simplified room control, providing convenient back-up in case a touch panel is inaccessible, cost-effective secondary control, or enhanced help desk support. Except for viewing the device in a browser window on any Apple UI device, the user interface looks and works like a Modero touch panel, viewable in two resolutions, 800x480 and 480x272.
