Saville has supplied a countrywide network of more than thirty TANDBERG 1000 systems for the Chief Fire Officers Association. Now fire officers can easily dial up groups of colleagues via a Multipoint Bridge at their Tamworth headquarters and see themselves and everyone else on-screen as they discuss labour, resource and safety issues. For the CFOA, video conferencing has become far more than a convenience. “Meetings are just the tip of the iceberg,” said a spokesman. “The future will see a great expansion in practical applications, like video on the fire grounds providing feedback to the headquarters. Video could also have a role to play in dealing with terrorist incidents as well as for training purposes.”
Some fire services have already begun using video conferencing to co-ordinate response planning and cut travel within local areas, such as Cambridge Fire & Rescue Service, where Saville has installed TANDBERG 1000 systems in six command stations.According to the CFOA, “Many of the most productive meetings we have just wouldn’t be possible if people had to come in person.”
